3G基地局システムのリーダである業界５社が基地局システムの効率化で協力

エリクソン、華為、NEC、ノーテル、シーメンスの５社は本日、3G（W－CDMA）基地局システムにおける新しい協力関係を築くため、“CPRI”（Common Public Radio Interface）というコンソーシアムを設立しました。


CPRIは、3G（W－CDMA）基地局システムのリーダである５社が、基地局システム内のインタフェースの標準化を推進することを目的にしています。


これにより、基地局メーカは、自社の製品開発において、各社のコアコンピタンスである部分に注力でき、一方で、インタフェースをあわせることにより、必要なサブシステムを適宜効率良く外部から調達することが可能になります。 基地局メーカは、新しい技術を自社の新製品にいち早く採用でき、また自社の製品ラインアップの拡充により、通信事業者へ迅速で幅広い製品を提供可能になります。また通信事業者も、よりフレキシブルなシステム構成、装置構成を選択できるというメリットがあり、より効率的な移動通信ネットワークを構築できるようになります。


CPRIの創設者である５社は、定義したインタフェースを無償で部品ベンダー、モジュールベンダー等に公開し、W－CDMAの普及促進に努めるものです。また、CPRIの定義するインタフェースは3GPPなど、業界標準に準拠していくものです。


CPRIの活動の成果として、インタフェースのスペック定義を2003年内に、また、2004年末までに共通のインタフェースを搭載した基地局製品を実現することを目標としています。
